Nestled in the forest at the foothills of the North Cascades, Celestial Navigations's recording studio combines the best of both the analog and digital domains. Much of modern music has lost a human feel and connection to nature. Nature is not perfect. The band records as an ensemble and edits are kept to a bare minimum. Microphone placement and performance create the sound and dynamics. Robby cut his studio teeth in the analog world where track count was limited and edits tedious. Limiting these factors forces creativity. Mixes are done through the console, where compressors can breath, eq can shine, tape delay can add depth, and the mixing itself is a performance versus a series of mouse clicks.
